Shopping for a wedding dress can be one of the most exciting aspects of the wedding planning process and can be an emotional experience. There is the absolute joy of finding the perfect dress, but there can also be immense stress, confusion, and doubt along with it.
Consider who to have in your entourage.
Limit your group to three or four people, meaning only bring your very nearest and dearest to your appointment: mom, sister, maid of honor, or even future mother-in-law. Don’t feel obligated to invite all of your bridesmaids, relatives, and friends.
Manage your time and schedule multiple appointments.
Don’t show up late, and don’t expect the salon to extend your appointment if you don’t arrive on time. And when scheduling try to keep your day filled with as much as possible, but be sure you have enough time at each bridal salon.
Also if you can, schedule appointments when they are having trunk shows, where you can take advantage of some helpful discounts!
Keep your budget a priority.
Don’t be afraid to be honest with what your budget is at the start of your appointment. Don’t try on any dresses that are out of your price range because you don’t want to fall in love with a dress you can’t afford.
Give and expect honesty.
When trying on your dresses give your honest opinion. It is good to hear opinions from your friends and family, but once you’ve tried on a dress, you should be the first to speak. Say out loud what you like and don’t like about each dress. Also, don’t be afraid to ask to try on accessories too, to get a better feel of the dress, but don’t feel pressured to purchase the extra accessories.
Listen to what your consultant has to say.
Your bridal salon consultant is there to help you out, they are there to listen to what you want. If you know you want to try on a specific style, don’t hesitate to ask either, but it’s your stylist’s job to suggest whatever they think would work best for you. They know the various styles, fabrics, and the ins and outs of everything wedding dresses.
Know your wedding dress shopping etiquette.
From pulling dresses off the racks yourself to spending more time on your phone searching for the perfect dress or overstaying on your appointment, these are definite no-no’s that you and your entourage need to know beforehand. Also ask beforehand about cameras as some salons don’t allow for photos!
